Band Shifting LTE Small Cells

Doodle Labs, in collaboration with a Tier 1 LTE Small Cell OEM has successfully completed the prototyping of band shifting of LTE Small Cell signals. The objective of this project is to allow 3GPP band 38+41 LTE Small Cell equipment to operate in Bands 42+43.

FES Eval KitDoodle Labs Prism-FES were used to build these prototypes and successful 2 stream MIMO operation was achieved without any degradation in the throughput. The FES is placed in-line between the Small Cell and the antenna to shift frequency range 2570~2690 MHz to 3400~3800 MHz range. The output frequency range is controlled from the USB port of the SBC and software API developed by Doodle Labs.  

With the successful development of this prototype, the next step of the project is to develop a more advanced and integrated 2 stream FES with up to 36 dBm power and a host of other features suitable for direct integration into LTE Small Cell chassis. The new FES will be available in Q1 2016 for commercial availabilityLTE FES

Doodle Labs Prism-FES instantly enables all TDD LTE equipment designed for bands 33~41 to operate in bands 42/43. The Prism-FES connects to the antenna ports of the modem (e.g. Small Cell) and shifts the signals to bands 42/43 frequencies without requiring any complex design changes. Prism-FES features ultra linear super heterodyne technology to support up to 256 QAM and 4×4 MIMO, exceeding the LTE-Advanced requirements.
